About This Test
Hepatitis B Core IgG (Total) detects antibodies to the hepatitis B core antigen, indicating past exposure or an ongoing HBV infection (these antibodies are not produced by vaccination). A positive result suggests prior or current infection and is not protective on its own; it’s interpreted with HBsAg, HBsAb, and anti-HBc IgM to distinguish acute, chronic, or resolved hepatitis B.
