About This Test
Hepatitis A IgM detects early antibodies that appear during a current or recent hepatitis A infection. A positive result supports acute HAV and potential infectivity; a negative result makes acute HAV less likely but can be falsely negative very early—repeat testing may be advised if symptoms persist. Results are typically interpreted alongside Hepatitis A IgG and liver enzymes (ALT, AST, bilirubin).
