About This Test
Hepatitis B Core IgM detects early antibodies to the HBV core antigen and is a key marker of recent or acute hepatitis B infection (or reactivation). A positive result typically indicates infection within the past ~6 months and is not produced by vaccination; it should be interpreted alongside HBsAg, HBsAb, total anti-HBc, and liver enzymes (ALT/AST) to determine stage and infectivity.
