About This Test
Ferritin is the storage form of iron; it reflects how much iron reserve your body has. Low ferritin is the earliest sign of iron deficiency—even before anemia appears—while high ferritin may occur with inflammation or liver disease. Doctors often review ferritin with hemoglobin, iron, TIBC, and transferrin saturation. This test is commonly included in routine check-ups to screen for potential problems early.
