About This Test
Copper is an essential trace mineral needed for healthy red blood cells, nerve function, connective tissue strength, and antioxidant defense. Low copper can contribute to anemia, low white blood cell counts, numbness or tingling, and fatigue, while high copper may be seen in certain liver or bile problems and in rare conditions affecting copper handling. Because copper levels can be influenced by supplements, inflammation, and hormones (including pregnancy and estrogen use), doctors often interpret this test together with clinical history and related labs such as zinc, iron studies, and liver tests.

Patient Preparation
No fasting needed. If possible, avoid taking copper or zinc supplements on the morning of the test unless your doctor advises otherwise.
